HTML 5.0 is currently developed as the next specification that will replace HTML 4.01 and XHTML. HTML 5.0 aims at becoming the standard technology for rich internet applications development and be the successor for Silverlight, Adobe Flash and JavaFX.

HTML5!The HTML 5 specification introduces new tags and new APIs we can use in our JavaScript code. The new capabilities HTML 5 introduces includes the capability to get the user geolocation data, play videos, play sound, draw 2D and 3D graphics and use a new data storage mechanism that allows our JavaScript code to save data in between one execution and another, even if the two belongs to two separated sessions. Many of today web browsers, including the ones that work on mobile telephones, already support many of the HTML 5 capabilities. The HTML 5 specification is led by Ian Hickson who works for Google. Apart of Google, there are many other companies that support the evolution of this new specification, including Microsoft and Apple. The HTML 5.0 specification is expected to become release candidate by the end of 2012. Till then, there is a need to take into consideration the differences between the HTML 5.0 support we can find in each one of the available web browsers.

Taking this course you will learn how to take advantage of the HTML 5.0 unique capabilities, such as the geolocation capabilities, and develop HTML 5.0 based applications both for mobile telephones, personal computers and televisions.

The following clip was created by google and it overviews the HTML 5.0 unique capabilities.
